A breakdown of the features

Freeform content collaboration

Both GatherKit and GatherContent have content collaboration features, but the way they gather content differs. GatherContent forces users to set up form fields before teams can begin writing. This is great when you have precise character limits or content layout or need to control your client’s content more granularly. GatherKit, on the other hand, has a freeform, doc-like design so people can structure the content however they see fit. This starts the process much faster but can get out of hand if the client likes to drone on in their copy. Everyone’s workflow styles are different, so determine what ways are more effective for you and your team.

Pricing built for freelancers and small agencies

Although GatherKit and GatherContent have similar features, GatherKit is a more affordable alternative for small digital agencies, web developers, and freelancers. While the GatherContent only provides a 14-day free trial, GatherKit offers the free kit, so you can use our feature as long as you want. GatherKit’s paid kits start at $16 per month, making it more accessible for small budgets and smaller projects to deliver still centralized project management that wows their clients.

Tracking content approvals

The most challenging aspect of compiling a lot of content is maintaining the status of your content. GatherContent allows users to create a custom workflow as they write, revise, and approve content. GatherKit has a very set process of tracked approvals (but may build custom workflows in the future!)

Assign pages and due dates

GatherContent and GatherKit make it clear to the team which roles they are assigned and which pages have specific deadlines. Project managers can use these features to invite collaborators, assign work, and track progress. The platforms will send notifications to contributors as you progress through your workflow.

Revision history and archived kits

With each step in the approvals, get unique versions to keep track of changes between you and your clients. Both resources also have access to history logs so you can reset to an earlier stage. While GatherContent doesn’t provide an archive feature on their basic plan, GatherKit offers 1-month archived projects for the free plan, so you can have plenty of time to back up and upgrade.

Site navigation builder

Because GatherKit is built for web projects, you can create custom navigation structures and even track approvals. As you plan your pages in the Navigation Builder, the pages are automatically created and ready for you to add content. While GatherContent currently doesn’t have this feature, they offer templated content features for page content.
